Central region

The Wildlife Clubs of Kenya has an office in Central region of Kenya at the Wajee Nature Park Mukurweini. The region covers Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Murang’a counties. Important ecosystems and attractions found in this region and which are an important package for school ecology include the Mt Kenya National Park, the Aberdares ranges, rivers, forests and wildlife sanctuaries. The Wildlife Clubs of Kenya is located at the Wajee Nature park; an oasis of tranquility & peace, where you can spend time communing with nature. This 22 acres gem is chiefly a bird’s sanctuary harbouring 126 birds’ species. Other animals include: duikers, bush babies, mongooses, squirrels, porcupines, chameleons, civets and genets. Mukurwe-ini valleys are among the 60 IBAs (Important Bird Areas) in Kenya. IBAs are sites that are critical for the conservation of bird populations, and other animals and plants. The Hinde’s Babbler Turdoides hindei, a bird endemic to Kenya and only found in central and eastern Kenya saw the declaration of Mukurwe-ini as an IBA.

Wildlife Clubs of Kenya (WCK) is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 1968 by Kenyan students. It was the first conservation education programme of its kind on the continent of Africa.
